APB Group have extensive experience or working with Bridge Construction, Replacement and Refurbishment.

Working on under-bridges, over-bridges and footbridges in rail, highways and waterways environments has become a very important part of the APB Group business and has lead to some our most successful and rewarding project portfolio.

Many of these projects have been carried out in closures or possessions and with a variety of additional constraints to overcome.

Our experience in bridges dates to back more than fifteen years right up until the present day, after recently completing numerous large bridges projects.

APB bridges expertise involves working with a variety of materials in both new build and refurbishment projects. Pre-cast and in-situ concrete, steel, timber and more recently fibre reinforced polymer materials have been used on a variety of projects.

Civils Asset Owners are under increasing budget pressure and are constantly looking at opportunities to reduce capital and maintenance costs, and APB can offer cost effective buildable solutions using traditional materials and advanced materials such as FRP and aluminium.

APB are at the forefront of innovation in bridge construction and refurbishment and always ensure that whole life cost is taken into consideration withy reduced maintenance costs wherever possible.

APB has a highly skilled in-house workforce and management team with many decades of experience between them working on highly complex and challenging bridge projects, as well as working with industry leading specialist supply chain partners and professionals on more specialist bridge projects.

Most recently, APB have completed the large refurbishment project in Bristol including extensive structural repairs and modifications and installation of the largest FRP pedestrian/cycle-way in Europe at Bromley Heath Viaduct. The project lasted more than a year on site and the works involved enabling works, temporary works, earthworks, reinforced concrete, concrete repairs and specialist pier strengthening involving anchor installation. A very complex project working with Main Contractor, Designer and other supply chain specialists in a collaborative environment ensured the project was delivered safely, ahead of programme and under budget.

Works on the Britannia Bridge in North Wales involved confined space working, brickwork repairs, preparation and painting of steelwork, steelwork repairs, scour protection, drainage and roadworks all carried out by our in-house workforce working to tight timescales and in railway possessions.

Works to Warwick Road under-bridge involved de-vegetation, graffiti removal, lifting and shifting lineside cables, installation of ballast retention system and support and carrying out brickwork repairs to abutments and wing walls, with all works carried out in-house.

Under-bridge 26A over the M6 Motorway near Sandbach involved installation of access scaffold and encapsulation in overnight lane closures of the motorway, de-vegetation, preparation and painting of steelwork, steelwork repairs, concrete repairs and encasement of cross girders in concrete.

APB are able to offer a one stop shop to design, fabricate and install new build bridge solutions as well as repairs and refurbishment of existing bridge structures and can advise clients and asset owners about the most suitable approach to individual projects dependent upon constraints.

Most importantly when delivering civil engineering solutions in bridge construction and refurbishment, an early contractor involvement and collaborative approach will always provide the client with the best engineering and most cost effective solution.
