Project Details

 

The work was to Underbridge No. 20 over the Stratford-upon Avon Canal, Whitlock's End.
The bridge crosses the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal at Whitlock's End, Solihull, West Midlands. The spot mileage of the project is 4 miles 792 yards on line reference TSB.
 

 Brickwork repairs to abutments and wing walls.

 A T(iii) 78 Hour possession was required for this work.

  

 A synopsis of the project is detailed below:
 
·                Establishment of a 1000t Crane
 
·                Removal of Permanent Way
 
·                Installation of a crash deck below the existing deck to prevent debris falling into the canal and to allow access while installing the cill beams and associated works including suitable edge protection.
 
·                Removal of Steel superstructure.
 
·                Reducing abutments to level for new cills.
 
·                Setting out and positioning of new cills on screed, core drill, dowel, shutter and grout new cill beams in position and grout new bearings in position.
 
·                Excavation behind abutments, installation of drainage, backfilling and compaction;
 
·                Disposal of waste, spoil and old ballast;
 
·                Reinstatement of Permanent way
 
·                Breaking down and rebuilding pilasters.
