Project Details

 

The work was to Footbridge no. 38  over the DSE line from Liverpool to Manchester.
 
The spot mileage of the project is 3 miles 15 chains on line reference DSE.
    
8 no. ROR 9 hour possessions had been booked to allow grit-blasting, painting and steelwork repairs to be carried out in-situ.
 
 
But, due to a change in using APB “value engineering” methodology the bridge was lifted off, refurbished and replaced in two 9 hour possessions.
 
This negated the risks of a series of possessions and also limited the potential effect on the environment.
 
 A synopsis of the project is detailed below:
 
·                Establishment of crane including crane pads
 
·                Removal of superstructure
 
·                Full grit-blast and paint to RT98 Specification
 
·                Approximately 4 t of steelwork repairs
 
·                Installation of new steel deck plates
 
·                Application of anti-slip flooring
 
·                Install new bearing pads
 
·                Replacement of superstructure.
